Getting to know more about Palace

Dive into our Q&A to learn about Palace Ipswich's vibrant drag scene, a creation of Iona Toyboy and Sasha Trajik-Mole in 2022

When did Palace Ipswich begin?

Place Ipswich was officially created by Iona Toyboy and Sasha Trajik-Mole in October 2022.

Why did we decide to run a regular show in Ipswich?

Iona and Sasha’s goal is to provide a stage for all types of drag performers to showcase their art and a space for people to experience this art in an up close and intimate environment. They have created Palace Ipswich as a safe space for the local LGBTQI+ community and allies to enjoy a night of Drag Entertainment.

At Palace Ipswich – drag is for everyone!

When is Palace Ipswich on?

Palace Ipswich is a monthly event held on the 2nd Saturday of every month.

Where are we located?

We are located at Banshees Bar and Art Space on Brisbane Street in the heart of Ipswich City. Affectionately known as ‘Banshees’, one of their goals is to uphold a ‘culture of inclusivity, care and creative energy’, which aligns with our vision and goals for our community.

We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land - the Jagera, Yuggera and Uguruapul people.

What can you expect from a night at Palace Ipswich?

We aim to foster a space of inclusivity, fun, and openness that some people may not have the opportunity to receive anywhere else and the ability to be themselves without judgement.

We like to have fun with our shows and try to have a new and exciting theme each time, ranging from Madonna or Kylie Minogue tribute shows, to neon or pyjama parties. We love to interact with our patrons and help them feel welcome, valued and an integral part of our Palace Ipswich family.

Our drag performers have to opportunity to entertain you with 3 shows throughout the night, as well as raffles and friendly banter from our hosts and performers while you enjoy a beverage and a night out on the town.

Everyone is welcome at Palace Ipswich, however please keep in mind that while we are an all ages welcome event, there may be some content better suited to mature audiences and as this is a licenced establishment, parents and guardians are required to accompany minors at all times and can decide whether the content is appropriate for their children.

Can you find us anywhere else?

Yes! Keep an eye out for our Palace Ipswich performers around Ipswich and surrounding areas.

In 2023 we were invited to be a part of ‘Queerswich’, a free, family friendly event held in Ipswich, designed to celebrate Pride and queer visibility in the region. This amazing showcase of local talent was pioneered by local residents Jules Herbert and Rach Vickary.

We have also represented the Ipswich community at ‘Glamapalooza’, a ‘showcase of the remarkable drag queen and queer performer talent in and around Brisbane’ (The Tivoli Brisbane Facebook page), held at The Tivoli Brisbane and organised by internationally renowned DJ, Harry K. Our show featured talent by Iona Toyboy, Sasha Trajik-Mole, our resident performer Alexis Diamond, joined by the fabulous Katya Lou-King.

Palace Ipswich has also been a part of Mardi Gras-Burg Festival, which kicked off in 2023 at the Marburg Verrenkamp Community Oval, performing a production style show with our resident performers Iona Toyboy, Sasha Trajik-Mole, Alexis Diamond and much-loved regular talent Binxx and Bi Paula.
