Introducing
Iona Toyboy
Iona started drag in 2003 because a friend of hers, Miss Jada Pinkbits, wanted to enter the Miss Sportsman competition but didn’t want to do it on her own.
The fabulous Tara Raboom Deay created some fabulous costumes, applied makeup and ‘Iona Toyboy’ was entered into the Miss Sportman Competition.
From there Iona was given the opportunity to do a few spot numbers at the Sportsman Hotel. The Sporties soon became Iona’s Drag home. This is where she learned to hone her performance skills, working with some of the best on the scene.
With the help of Tara, Dame Liz Taylor and Meridian Chase, Iona learned how to apply drag makeup and sew costumes.
Iona was lucky enough to be cast in many productions shows at Sporties (often alongside Sasha Trajik-Mole) and has worked in venues all over Brisbane and Gold Coast including The Beat Megaclub, The Wickham, Family, MP’s, and Escape. She has also been lucky enough to travel around Australia to places like Canberra, Toowoomba, the Sunshine Coast and take part in regional events like Diversity in Maryborough, North Queensland.
She has been a part of Queens Ball, Gay Day Mega Drag and Brisbane Pride performances, as well as Sydney Mardi Gras parade floats and festival parties at Midnight Shift.

Performed at charity events:
- CWC – quarterly fundraising event held at the Sportman Hotel Citizens Welfare Committee dedicated to raising money for people living with HIV, established in 1986.
- World Aids Day hosted by Fluffy
- Brisbane Pride Opening Night
Iona’s enjoys working as part of an ensemble in production shows, with costume changes and group choreography, and her performances range from high energy dance numbers to power ballads, campy fun and showgirl realness.
Iona, along with her best gal pal, Sasha Trajik-Mole, is a co-owner of Palace Ipswich, established 2022.
